Our needle workers have made over 1000 lap robes for the veterans at the Stratton VA in Albany!  Veterans entering the hospital are each given a lap robe.  We have had so much positive feed back from the hospital and veterans about this program.

If you knit or crochet, we can use your help in this out reach.   We have lots of yarn to give to those who would like to participate.  What an amazing way to thank those who have served all of us.

With the guidance of our outreach chairman, Rosemary L., we have been collecting items for the Food Bank at the Mayfield Presbyterian Church.  There are boxes in the front of the church for any items you wish to donate.  Once or twice a month the food is delivered across the road for distribution.

Some of the items that are accepted are:

Canned fruit, vegetables, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter.

Spaghetti and macaroni, all non sweetened cereal, beans, rice.

Tabs from soda and other cans are collected as well as certain box tops.  These are donated to the local schools to help purchase needed supplies for teachers and students.

At Christmas, we adopt a family in need.  Names of possible recipients for this outreach are obtained from the school or the county DSS.  We receive a list of needed items as well as wish lists from the children in the family.  During the month of December, items are selected, purchased, and wrapped by anyone wishing to help out.  Just before Christmas, the items are delivered to the family.

Last year our family was a single mom who had recently lost her job and was unable to provide her children with a Christmas celebration.

Mayfield Elementary School provides us with gift tags for students who otherwise may not receive any Christmas Gifts.  These are placed on a Christmas tree in our sanctuary for anyone who wants to provide a gift for a child.  They are available right after Thanksgiving and packages are delivered to the school in time for distribution.

This mission provides household items, books, clothing and much more for shoppers.  Most all items are 25 cents!  Often, when a family has a crisis, i.e. a fire, clothing is donated to them free of charge.   At Christmas they have a toyland sale of gently used toys at very reasonable prices.

Help is always needed to staff the shop.  If you have items to donate, they can be dropped off at the church.

All of these outreach programs serve our local families and veterans!   Help is always needed in a variety of ways.  Whether you buy a box of cereal for the food bank, knit an afghan for a veteran, or donate funds, help is always needed.  If you want to participate, call the church at 661-6114 or any church member.

If you are shut in or otherwise unable to get to the church, call and we will make arrangements to visit you and pick up your donations.
